Verified ReviewerResolved: I have done work and have not been paid in 2 weeks
- - Bid on rehab in Bartlett, TN with Heath Benson.
- - Invoice submitted; Dennis Barlow asked for a W-9, then left, and I must wait.
I bid on a rehab project on a home in Bartlett, TN. I dealt with Heath Benson.
I turned in an invoice to get paid, then I'm told there's another department (Dennis Barlow) that takes care of that Friday afternoon, of course, when they're about to close. I called him, and he says he needs a W-9.
I submitted that, and then they told me days later he no longer works for them. Now they're giving me BS and saying I still have to wait.
- Awful
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified ReviewerThe unfair treatment my family received at the shelter.
- - Dinner denied; intake issues, staffing shortages, funding freeze.
- - Safety concerns; harassment of daughter reported, not addressed.
I made several calls so I gave up..I just don't understand how they said they couldn't help assist with funding for Security deposit and Rent due to the freeze on funding but yet they were assisting with Electric Bills and water bills..Soo many people have made complaints on the Salvation Army in Tuscaloosa Alabama..They are under staffed, they need to get someone to cook a warm meals for the homeless.
And what bothers me most is the fact that my daughters have mental health issues and I explained it to them and they still didn't care..Alot of people are afraid to speak out or report because they said they will put you out.. and that's unfair cause in order to fix the problem we have to tell someone..As of today me and my girls aren't going to have anywhere to go and we are out of funds to help with the room we are in at the Econo lodge in Northport Alabama..
Have never been able to talked to he right person. Why in the world the Salvation Army Storrs have different return policy? Aome accept exchange and some DO NOT. Makes NO sense.
Terrible. I never was able to connect with someone.
Stupid system and a waste of energy and time. Why do you send this when no one is going to respond or reach out?

Verified ReviewerBedbug and roach infestation
- - Roach infestation and bedbugs forced a hotel stay.
- - Hotel costs and property loss compensation requested; management blames me and hasn't addressed it.
I have been dealing with roach infestation in my apartment for more than a year, a little more than a week ago. I noticed bedbugs on my furniture and crawling up the walls.
I had to go to a hotel to get away from the infestation. I want my hotel Accommodations paid for and I want to be compensated for loss of my private property due to bedbug infestation property management has not sufficiently addressed my situation. In fact, I was blamed for bringing the insects in to my apartment myself. I have cancer and all I do is go to my doctors appointments.
I was informed by the manager of the apartment complex that I probably brought the bedbugs in myself going to my doctors appointment, which is ridiculous. I have talked to other residence there who have relayed the same kind of problems that Im having.
Obviously the insect problem is out of hand And must be addressed. I expect to hear promptly from you to hear what you are going to do to address this problem for me right now I am out over $300 for the hotel not to mention loss of my furniture and clothing and other private possessions.
User's recommendation: Very poorly run facility.

Verified Reviewer |Treated unfairly and unkindly
- - -Hired as a bell ringer, I was sent home before a shift.
- - -They couldn't locate me or call back.
- - -I canceled a trip for this job and was treated poorly.
I was hired as a bell ringer, and before I could even work a shift, I was told to go home due to the fact that someone said they could not find me. However, they did not call me to find out where I was or let me know where they were.
I was never called back, and when I went back to see why I didn't get a callback, I was told that they didn't have any place to put me. I canceled a trip to take this position and was never allowed to work. I was spoken to like a second-class citizen, which was very disrespectful.
I must say, I was very surprised. I've never been treated so poorly.
- I think the salvation army is a beautiful organization that i have been proud to have had the opportunity and privilege to work with
- I was hired and never had the opportunity to work

- - Has 17 billion in assets yet underfunds meals.
- - Evicts for infractions after 11 PM to call a suicide hotline.
- - Cockroaches, flies, and mold exist.
Have 17 billion in assets yet barely feed people in the shelter and treat them like garbage. Look for any reason to throw people out, including getting out of bed past 11 PM to call a suicide hotline. Also have cockroaches, flies, and black mold in their buildings.

Verified ReviewerComplaint about an employee and her prices
- - Items are priced above their original tags.
- - Original price tags were removed and a rice cooker showed $7.99 with a $10.99 tag; I used a coupon.
They are over pricing their items. The product will have a cheaper tag from where it originally came from and the put higher prices.
Purchased a rice cooker with its original tag for $7.99 yet the Salvation Army sticker was for $10.99. Luckily I had a coupon. The employee literally scratched off the original price off in front of me thinking I wouldnt notice.
Her and another employee were going around the whole store removing original prices on items and pricing them higher because someone else complained as well. They need to be fired!
Preferred solution: Hey need to have some sort of consequence. They are not only stealing but are making people want to boycott The Salvation Army. There are many fb pages trying to cancel you guys

- - Long phone waits and disconnections prevented contact.
- - Alleged staff steal from donation bins and brag; donations may drop.
They never looked at the complaint nor replied to it. They will not even answer the phone these days.
One employee took a pair of Gucci slippers and another employee took a gold ring and sold it and put $1700 in there pocket. Both stories were shared with me and other customers like they were proud of it.
How sad when the real shoppers can't find anything in the store because of theft and your ebay store.
The store is there to help the community not the highest bidder online, especially when you have people physically driving to the store who can't even get things they need.
I will be making it puplicly known that your not helping the community anylonger but instead lining your pockets.
Your donations will decline as I let people know what's really going on.
I spent $11,500 last year at salvation armies.
Now I will take me business someplace else.
Heck... you can't even answer the phone for customers but you can satisfy the highest bidder who isn't even in Minnesota.
Regards.

Verified ReviewerOvercharged by the cashier which is the store manager
- - Overcharged $8; cashier charged $24.99 for both.
- - Manager offered store credit only, not a refund.
- - Customer wanted refund to come from Salvation Army.
I was overcharged $8.00 on a pair of shoes; the cashier charged me $24.99 for both of my pairs of shoes. I went back to the store, but the manager who rang me up said she could only provide a store credit.
I wanted my hard-earned money back on my credit card. She said no, only credit; it's not my fault she overcharged me.
Then she offered to give me money from under the checkout counter. I said I didn't want your money, it should come from the Salvation Army!

Verified ReviewerComplaint
- - Salvation Army Hamburg: a manager gave attitude when I used a clothing voucher; 8 jeans for $46 were handed to me; call Kevin Richards 484890****.
Like I said the first time I reviewed this store I was treated very poorly and I received alot of comments on my review about me taking advantage of kids and special needs people. There is a lot of sick people who go here and yes I have a car and yes I have a part time job and before I got sick and could no longer work I used to work 14 hours a day come home for 3 hours and go back to work. So don't make up stuff you know nothing about
I know the guy that manages the store, and he has an attitude with me. When I went in with my voucher, he said, 'You know the drill, start shopping,' quite arrogantly. So, I got 8 pairs of jeans. He counted them up, and it was $46.
He then said, 'Here you go,' and handed me a handful of jeans, not folded like a paying customer, not putting them in bags like a paying customer would, but with an attitude. I don't deserve to be treated like this just because I'm having trouble right now with affording things and I need to use assistance to get clothing. His name is Tom Seymour at the Hamburg Salvation Army. I would like a call back to know what's going on about this.
My number is 484890****. My name is Kevin Richards.
- Prices are way too high you can buy the same thing at walmart cheaper

Verified Reviewer |The hypocritsy of this establishment is astonishing.
- - Staff did not note my mental/physical health needs.
- - I was pushed to apply for 80 jobs weekly and do hard chores; food aid was denied.
I'm a mother of one who is homeless and in need. I've explained to them on the very first day that I have serious mental and physical issues.
I suffer from severe depression and anxiety; I have constant back and hip joint pain and my memory is as poor as a 1MB floppy disk. My birth certificate and SSN were stolen my first time in the state of Florida. Until I find resources to help me recover these, I cannot apply for EBT or a Florida state ID without my birth certificate and SSN card, so they need to be patient with me. Despite explaining all this during my initial interview, they seem to have never noted these issues.
They have given me two anxiety attacks and had me do back-breaking chores, then written me up when I either fail to complete them or only manage to do them halfway. I told them about my anxiety regarding interviews and jobs, yet they still pushed me to fill out 80 job applications a week. They deserve the golden medal for the most obnoxious and unhelpful staff in the history of Christian churches. I asked for food for the weekend for me and my daughter because I didn't have EBT and couldn't buy food.
They looked at me as if I was insane for even asking and responded with, 'You should be grateful you are under a roof.' It's as if my basic human rights to food, water, and privacy should be disregarded because they provided me with a bed. They are absolutely useless when it comes to offering any other resources. They make me fearful of asking them for anything because they treat me like I'm 'undeserving.' The staff has also threatened to contact CPS on me after my daughter missed a few days of school. Instead of being honorable Christians and actually seeing a need that requires help with a little grace and understanding, they threaten to take my daughter from my arms.
I thought the church and government were separate, but apparently not, as I feel the same way within the Salvation Army that I do around government officials – like a number on a piece of paper and a paycheck, with an absence of empathy, understanding and love. I've never felt so singled out, ignored, blamed, and punished in my life than what the Salvation Army has done to me.
- Donations
- Lack of service
- Lack of empathy
- Unhelpful
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Don't deal with Salvation Army.. you are not a person to these people. You're a paycheck and will be treated as such.
