Pastor and his wife keeping all the good stuff

I volunteer at the warehouse in Bellaire Ohio and every time I go in to work I see everything worth keeping with a tag on it that says hold for Mrs. Patric. And when I went to help with produce, everyone said not to pass out the 6 cases of orange juice because it is for Mrs. Patric. What is going on with this world when the people we are supposed to trust are taking food and Items away from the people that really need the help and need the food. If nothing is done about this then I will call the main office and have something done about it. The next time I go down I am taking pictures of all the tags that say hold for Mrs. Patric. this is really ignorant of someone that is supposed to be godly.

I have read the complaints of the volunteer and would like to state the truth.

Our warehouse is located in a different location than our community building. We strictly operate on volunteers at the warehouse.

One of the volunteers call our main office to let us know what items are donated.

We run a 365 day 24 hour shelter that is for homeless men, women and children

We provide free furniture and household items to those in need.

If someone is in need of clothing or shoes we Sen them to the warehoyse.

We operate men, women, and children's programs each week where we provide snacks. We provide daily food rent and utility assistance to those in need As the juice was mentioned we purchase the food from the food bank and it is delivered to the warehouse. We purchase the food to distribute to anyone in need. If items are donated to The Salvation Army please be assured they are used for that purpose.

As the warehouse has many different volunteers many people are in and out of the warehouse. If we did not label the items they may disappear. My husband and I have been pastors for 20 years and prior to that I was a caseworker for 7. In all of my employment withe the Salvation Army I have never taken anything that did not belong to me.

God sees everything and He is my judge, I will answer to him. In 10 years at the location I have gone to the warehouse only a but 5 times a year.

The volunteers set aside those things they feel we can use or may to purchase for our programs. Thank You God Bless

They are not the only pastor that is dishonest. Sad when you try to let someone know they ignore you or avoid you.

They will have to answer to God one day! Sad that some are a hypocrite. I know one pastor that even yells at his employees and their spouses even. The nerve!!

And he even plays favorites with his employees here in Kansas City.

Has told lies and got away with it.

Guest

I know what is happening. They run a homeless shelter and they take everthing over to their other building.

The reason her name is on it is because she is the one who distributes the stuff. You are ignorant by posting something you don't have a clue about. Get a life and stop making up lies and spreading rumors. The Patrick's are good people and would give the shirt.

Off their backs for someone.

They would never take anything. Please in the future stop making stuff up and get a life.

Not all the juice should go to her should be fair and be distributed. I agree with this volunteer!

I hope this gets reported and investigated. Everything nice should not be saved for her.

I dont care how nice she is! Mind your own business and how dare you insult her for telling the truth!!

Guest

If you waste your time taking pictures while you are supposed to be working you aren't being any better than what you are accusing the pastor and his wife of doing. Furthermore, you don't know all the details of what is going on.

Are you aware that the Pastor and his wife are required to do a lot of entertaining when there are out of town Salvation Army members visiting? Another possibility could be that they are donating the furniture to somebody that they know that needs it and can't afford to buy it. The Salvation Army does give away furniture and clothes to needy people that can't afford to buy the items at the lowest prices possible. The orange juice you are complaining about is more than likely being used for some of the many meals that the Salvation Army has.

They also provide meals for fire fighters when they are at a fire that takes an extended period of time to fight. They also go out and provide meals for people that are affected by natural disasters. Before you go making accusations you should be sure you know all the details.

For the record I'm not associated with any Salvation Army group, but I do know all the good that they do.

But the stuff this person is talking about does happen - all the time. Happens here also in Australia at the local charity shops.

Often the worker at the charity shop picks the best items and takes them (free or for a very very small price) and then has a stall at the local market...makes a bucket out of working for the charity. And for the record, I used to be in the ministry. Unfortunately, this type of in house and endemic corruption is one of the main reasons I left the ministry. Once I was an "insider" I was appalled at what I discovered - in all good conscience I could not stay.

So if this person working at a charity organisation has good reason to feel that there is dishonesty, and she brings this politely to the appropriate notice, then an explanation can be given. If "Mrs Patric" is above board then all the provisions she is putting aside will be transparent and open to scrutiny. I did not notice this person accusing the Pastor and his wife specifically (unless Mrs Patric is the pastor's wife). If Mrs Patric is the pastor's wife, then a direct question about this should easily and openly elicit a direct and honest answer.

If this does not happen, then we need more whistle blowers like this person from Thunder bay - pastors, church and charity leaders are answerable to their congregations and to the wider community for what they say and do. In my experience some of the most corrupt people in our church and charity organisations are the pastors and leaders themselves.

Sorry to be so negative, but unfortunately and sadly, that's the truth. This is not limited to Salvation Army by the way - trust is breached in every charity and church organisation.

Lazy, *** Poor Organization

I am in the process of moving and I scheduled a Salvation Army pick up three weeks prior. I had about 8 items for them to pick up. They arrived about 20 minutes after the window they provided. After waiting all morning for them to arrive, three men showed up. One was friendly, the driver was, however, rude and did not even introduce himself, simply walking into my house. It was clear from the start that he had no intention of picking up any of the items. Two couches had small water stains (minimal) on the arms and so he said he could not take them. Ok, I totally understand that they can't accept "damaged" items but he then just started walking out without seeing any of the other items. When I inquired about the other items, he (begrudgenly) walked to the second floor of my house. I was planing on donating a fully, functioning washer and dryer but he replied that they couldn't move them down the stairs ("we aren't a moving company"). I am sorry, doesn't the SA move furniture into their trucks. That's what they do, move items from houses to their trucks (where the SA turns a profit from donated items). There seems to be a lack of consistency in what the drivers will do - just a few weeks prior, my dad donated a very large tv and stand and the drivers used a hand truck and moved it to their truck through a 6,000 sq ft house so they most definitely "move" items to their truck. Lazy employees ..too lazy to actually do their jobs. Will never use the SA again and plan to bash them at every opportunity, especially online.

lol 20 minutes past the window? that's why people call them ESTIMATED times of arrival no one can ever be exactly on time but oh lord a whole 20 minutes =( whatever shall you do?

I agree with the others I've donated to SA myself and you NEVER allow them into the house.

have the items outside ready for pickup. if they dont' take them due to damage so be it. CL them up for free someone will probably take them.

the incident with the tv is probably an exception as I know people who work for the SA. they are in fact NOT a moving company.

just because they have the tools to do so does not mean they HAVE to move anything even if it's being donated.

quit your whining and pay for removal next time.

I think my british friends would agree with this comment

"don't get your knickers in a twist ya manky git" or something like that =) but you get the idea

Guest

Who is lazy? It's you, I have had SA pick items from my home but I NEVER let them in and we ALWAYS have the items waiting in the garage for the them to load.

I agree with Ricochet-Rabbit. So quit complaining about nothing.

Now place your other foot in the grave, lay down and take a dirt nap. :p

Greenley Amt

Wow...a whole 20 minutes late. :cry

I also bet if they put the smallest scratch on a wall or floor, you'd "bash them at every opportunity, especially online."

Rude nasty employees shouldn't be in managerial positions that require compassion

Went to store to make an emergency purchase a top for someone who was in a desperate situation and had to catch a flight. Arrive at store in Rochester Hills.

The doors were opened as I understood when I called that

they opened at 7 am. I arrived at about 8;30, went to the rack and grabbed a much needed t shirt and sweater. I then proceeded to check out feeling lucky there was no line and feeling proud to do a good deed for a needy person. I waited a few minutes looking around for help.

Then the smug, smart assed woman

who finally sauntered up to the register proceeded to tell me they don't open till 9 am. I was shocked as they always say they open at 7am. I explained the situation but to no avail since her cold, corporate, insensitive attitude told me I was getting no where fast. I even offered to leave the money on the counter or with her, and donating the change to the store.

The total purchase was six dollars mind you. I would have given them a ten with no change in return. It seemed she didn't give a *** about the situation of helping someone out, just her corporate master. I asked to see the manager.

And she replied "that would be me". She had the nasty attitude that I needed her, she didn't need me. The worst thing to do is put someone cold hearted person in a managerial position. That's what is going to bring them down.

Not to mention their way overpriced merchandise which was donated to them for free. And their gimmicky color coded sales in which they take the colors that are suppose to be 5 for 5 dollars on Fridays off the racks. I caught on to that one fast and stopped going. I used to like supporting the salvation army and used to be treated like they appreciated my donations.

Now they are little more than a corporate money grabbing machine with no sympathy. An obviously used sweater for 8.99?

A lot of people don't need to shop there, but like helping the less fortunate. We obviously care more about them than the Salvation Army.

I was looking around on a Friday(5 for 5 dollar) sale and one of the more friendly honest workers told me I should have come earlier and that the "management" tells them to start removing the sale color tags from the rack two or three days before Friday. If you do show up on Friday, good luck finding 5 items of the sale color.

I know longer waste my time knowing this is what they are doing. Some of the prices are ridiculous for used merchandise. Don't tell me they have to compete with retail. Retailers compete by LOWERING their prices.

Don't tell me about overhead. They are getting FREE donations from some of the very people who shop in their stores. The poor people who HAVE to shop their ARE being fleeced. USED t- shirts for 5 and 6 bucks?

Then hope the tag is the sale of the day. The people of means who shop there to support the SA just look at the jacked up prices and figure they may as well go to Macys for new merchandise.

Its the people that DEPEND on the SA who gets jilted. If they lower the prices, they may move more merchandise, poor people can afford clothing, everyone benefits.

Guest

As far as the SA giving a person three outfits, people that go there to get free clothes do it as a means to supplement clothes that they already have. Some people are thankful to get the three outfits.

You can go back in the future and get three more outfits, however, I wouldn't do it too often. The fact that doctors and lawyers shop at the Salvation Army isn't what is increasing the prices. It is the cost of the overhead to operate the store. they are shopping for collectables, I know of one attorney that came in looking for real furs to use to make stuffed animals, which in turn was donated to one of the charities that provide Christmas for needy children.

I didn't say they were raising their prices to compete with retail, I said their overhead was going up, just like other stores. I did work in a Salvation Army store, but haven't since 1993. There is no need to be sarcastic and snotty about the people who work at the SA. All kinds of people work in those stores.

Some of the are paid and some are volunteers. I don't shop at any thrift store, because it is too hard to find decent things. The clothes get stretched out of shape from being manhandled by customers. When I worked at the SA I saw the condition clothing was in, when it was donated and the condition it was in after being on the sales floor for a short period of time.

They are also very fussy about the condition of the clothes that gets put out on the floor. If it isn't in good condition they put it in a bundle to be shipped to third world countries.

The money that gets put in the red kettles doesn't go support the stores, it goes to provide help for needy families for Christmas. A lot of you complaining about the SA here, have no idea what all they do.

Well I think that they should give more than three outfits. Like all the other smartasses posting on my complaint you must work for Salvation army.

This is my review you *** and if I want to be sarcastic I will be. You are just lucky I am not reporting you to FDA for stalking, online bullying and harassment. Stay off my review if you are only going to say retarded things.

You must be proud sending the clothing to third world countries, clothes that are out of fashion and not good for us. You think because you are one of those paid workers you are better than the volunteers who only do so to get free clothing.

You are no better than the volunteer, they do it out of kindness you are one of those greedy bastards I am referring to. Well thanks to your company I had no gift to give my friend and I looked foolish not giving a gift to my friend while visiting her.

Thanks a lot you greedy ***, you ***

I'll make sure to remember these complaints when I walk past the kettle. I'll give my money personally to someone in need instead of giving corporate greed more power to abuse the needy.

Tanishka Bix
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-794950

If you want to help the needy then DON'T remember the "complaints". They're all probably from the same person.

She doesn't have a clue what she's talking about. She walked into a store 2 hours before it opened and got mad when the manager told her she couldn't complete a transaction. Should the manager have opened the cash drawer in front of her and counted the money while the customer waited? There's a reason why that's not normal practice.

There is overhead obviously (like the wages they pay to people who are trying to get back on their feet, new legal immigrants to this country, and obviously building rental and maintenance) but no one's getting rich off a Salvation Army salary. How do they abuse the needy?

Guest

I guess that's why the greedy bastards up the prices. Thinking every one is a doctor or lawyer.

Or they needed to compete with the retail market. Your smugness is the exact attitude I'm talking about. You are qualified to judge someone's personal situation as to what they need when? For your info, she didn't PAY her own airfare.

This is NOT a retail store, but a SECOND HAND store.

They don't pay one dime for their merchandise. It is GIVEN to them. USED. not new.

You must work at the store. Your calculations fit their attitude perfectly. I personally don't NEED to buy squat from them and have given a wealth of donations. One of their OWN employees told me of the removing of Friday sale items from the floor two days before the sale.

Many people know their game.

One employee commented that their item will actually move if they lower their prices. Instead, they choose to play musical tags.

Guest

Okay cut out the BS about the good citizen you were buying clothes and how you were short of time. It is not their fault you left this to the last minute just before your flight.

Next time tell your mommy to take you a few days before the flight. Not changing the rules just for you is not the same as being rude. Learn the difference between being rude and following procedures and regulations. If you can't figure it out have an adult tell you.

Also get your facts straight, you said the sweater was $6 now it is $8.99, either way if you are not willing to pay that price than you are not as a good citizen as you claimed to be in your first paragraph, so cut out the drama and admit you went at the last minute and threw a temper tantrum when they would not open the door just for you.

Also have your parents explain to you things like paying for rent, paying employees, paying for utilities, ect. This could be the reason the items are higher priced than you are willing to pay for.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-794827

You're the one who needs glasses. The sweater and shirt was six bucks altogether.

I was going to give them a ten dollar bill, and they could stuff the change where the sun didn't shine. Oh well I guess they wanted to keep the stuff for themselves, like they do in the purse department.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-794898

The 8.99 sweater was a different dingy wrinkled rip off that they had hanging on another rack. Not the one I tried to purchase.

Guest

Well for your information, several years ago I worked in a Salvation Army Thrift Store and you would be surprised the number of doctors and lawyers families that shopped there. It wasn't for things for needy people, it was for themselves.

The store that you went to might open at seven for donations, but not have the registers open until nine. As far as the prices they charge for their items is concerned, things in every retail place are getting higher priced because the cost of overhead keeps going up. The things that the Salvation Army has to pay out of what they make in the store, is rent/mortgage, utilities, insurance wages, etc. That is just to keep the store going.

Besides the expenses that I listed, people can also go to the SA Office and tell them they need some clothes and they will be given a voucher to take to their thrift store and they can pick out a certain number of outfits(it used to be three.) The same applies for basic furniture. The SA Thrift Store where I live recently closed because they weren't taking enough in to make it worth keeping the store open. Didn't the person you were buying the clothes for have anything to wear?

If that person didn't, how could they afford a plane ticket?

Salvation army did not help

On Friday march 14 at about 1:20 pm I went to the Sally Anne food bank. They opened at 1 however like 4 others I arrived there early around 12:00 to be first in line because I really needed proper food and generally its first come first serve. The thought being that if someone gets there early they likely need the food more than the one who doesn't care and gets there late. We are to stand in line and go into the food room in groups of 4, then pick what we want from items laid out in rows along tables. There is a dairy section that is approximately in the middle, this is really the only thing of value there because usually its chocolate milk or orange juice, its something nice in life, something that makes the walk from outside of town actually worth it, something that is there to make one want to actually live another day... but it gets deprived of me every time, with the excuse that "NO Its for families". I have to pass by it and not touch it when Im at the lowest point of the month, when I need it the most. This is unusually cruel... and it makes me infuriated for there is ALWAYS LOTS OF IT. Its horrible every time I go in there, if I try to take one I get yelled at and abused. The salvation army here in Powell river is the cruellest sally Anne I've ever known. Last Christmas my food hamper was stolen and when I went to beg for a knew one they promptly refused me with no explanation, I left in tears which they saw and didn't care... not one bit. The woman that refused me was the woman whom her and her husband are the "Generals" of the Powell river branch(and do they ever act like generals in the military). It was a horrible Christmas in which i nearly took my own life because nobody "gave a ***". Although they were swamped in donations they couldn't even show enough kindness to help me at Christmas after my hamper was stolen. PLease I wish someone could give us some relief of these generals of the salvation army here and replace them with more kinder more gentler individuals... please, most of the donations go to the Sally Anne here in Powell river and they are not getting to the people who need them the most. Please I BEG OF YOU... HELP. Your Generals here in Powell River is going to end up killing someone someday (me)... for the lack of empthy and help when they are the last resort in a persons dark life. They have shown me no compassion or help whatsoever. This is devastating when the resources here are so limited because of the seclusion, its as secluded here in Powell river as being on an island with no way off.

If they were then they have WAY too much time on their hands.....time that could've been used looking for a job, or researching how to make chocolate milk if all you have is white milk and a couple bucks, etc.

Tanishka Bix

Wow. So chocolate milk or orange juice is all that stands between you and suicide??

Have you tried standing outside of a grocery store and asking someone if they mind buying you a carton of chocolate milk? Don't say that you're too proud to beg because you aren't.

You are willing to somehow get on the Internet and complain about free *** food. Get a job and stop trying to steal chocolate milk from homeless babies.

Headquarters moves Mr.and Mis Majors Stinsons after only 2 years.

I live in concord Nh. Ive been going to the savation armys church during this time, and through kind efforts of Mr.and Miss Majors Stinsons trust and belief in me ,Ive come to know Jesus in ways i never could have before. When laerning that they will be moved soon after only 2 years, my interest in your church has fallen.I was going to become a soldier but if this is how the great salvation army treats there own, then maybe the change needs to come from the top ! wheres the thinking has become distorted over the decades.Mr.and Miss Major Stinsons are as close to Mr.Booths kind and gentle ways of reasoning. Why move the Stinsons when they are the best thing to happen here in Concord NH ? they move and 6 families including my own six must pray for a better church to attend. A church that has a heart and not just stats. We are sad to see them go they did NOT have enough time to make the good changes that were needed here at the concord church. Shame on you who move those who can make the greatest changes.I will pray to God that the Stinsons are treated the way they deserve to be. The change at the Great Salvation Army needs to come from the TOP not from the Middle.Shame on the Salvation Army, people should be more important than your stats. From Joe F

Worst customer service ever

I was specific when i detailed the items for donation. The representative did not seem to care so i repeated the list because I knew they would need a large truck. I have about $20,000 (retail) worth of items to donate. I had hoped to contribute to the community. What a shock when the driver told me that he has NO ROOM in his truck and can't take anything. I called and spoke to a supervisor to address this. I advised her that they would lose business under the current business model and she showed no concern. I am disappointed in this organization and will NEVER donate funds or items to them again.

Mike,

I as I stated, I called back and spoke to a supervisor. It was not a case of no room.

I was told they had no room because my items were not on the ticket. This is a customer service issue, not a driver dispute.

And it was not for a tax write off Sir, please do not pretend to know my business.

I sent the items to a church in Mexico, and received no tax credit.

Have a nice day Sir.

Didn't take everything!!!!!

I called the Salvation Army Donation Center, and specifically told them exactly what I had to donate for pick up. My Mother passed away December of 2013, and it was her furniture that I wanted picked up. About $5,000.00 worth of her and my belongings. They took the 2 year old refrigerator, an old stereo with a record player built into a cabinet, two 27" remote controlled color TV's, but, they refused to take a really nice couch that I can't use, and they also refused to take my Mother's bed. I had been assured, that those items would definitely be taken. The couch, won't fit through the door, so it has to be taken through the glass doors of the balcony, and lowered to the ground. I and my Mother several years ago, took a couch through the balcony ourselves with no problem, but two workers, and their Supervisor refused to do that, and that was even after I offered to help them. I'm 63, and have a bad back. The bed, they said, was a hospital bed, and refused to remove that too. The bed, is a standard length double, and is a Serta Motion bed, remote control, with vibrator massage, and a memory foam mattress. It's two 2 years old, in excellent condition, and originally cost $2,936.00. It's not a hospital bed, and 4 people I spoke to said, prior to the truck finally showing up after waiting around for 4 hours, that they definitely would take the bed. The couch, and bed are still here. I need to be out of this apartment no later than March 7th, and, i'm moving out of town, and can't use the bed myself. I'm too tall for the bed. I called the pick up center after the truck left, and after I told the Supervisor that I would never donate anything ever again to them, and mentioned they really screwed me, the phone went dead. Oh, and one of the workers mentioned he was a recovering heroine addict. I didn't particularly want to hear that in person.

When you asked about them taking the bed over the phone the person you were speaking to probably thought you meant the frame portion only. They obviously can't take the mattress portion, that's gross and probably illegal for them to resell.

As far as the truck driver and his past indiscretions go, ALL truck drivers for Salvation Army or Volunteers of America are people who are trying to turn their lives around. Yeah, he probably shouldn't have come right out and told you about his past but I guess if he was chock full of good sense he probably wouldn't have started doing heroin in the first place. Cut the guy a break. He's trying to become a productive member of society.

I'm not sure about The Salvation Army but I know that for VOA, on the fliers they send around to let people know when they'll be in our neighborhood collecting donations, it specifically says "we have the right to refuse any donation".

These places are charities not your free haul away service.

Employee discrimination

Hello my name is Maria and I have a urgent concern that requires your immediate attention. My mother has been with your company for 14 years and she is having to deal with a new manager that is making her life difficult she has not ones but a few times said to her that she "is not a good manager" but has not done anything about it except horas her. She is now being told that because she does not have a car or a driving license she must step down from her position and take a pay cut. Now let me tell you this my mother is Hispanic and in her 50s and has never learned to drive however she has her husband that does drive and takes her to and from work, as well as all and any appointments she has. It has never affected her work in any way she is at work 15 min early and meets all other requirements. Because she was never hired as a driver and is not require to drive a company vehicle why is this regulation affecting her? And why is she only being given 3 days to get a car and license, she would have to study, take the written test, practice driving, set an appointment to take the driving test witch they only take appointments and it takes 3 months to get in. So why is she being targeted? Why is she not given any written notices and written info for her attorney to look at? So as you can see this is time sensitive, your immediate attention is greatly appreciated. The state of this issue is Nevada

I don't see the need to put your mother's race or age into the complaint that should have nothing to do with it. if the job is requiring her to have a license to keep it then that's how it is.

I've had a job where I had to have a license or I couldn't keep my management position. so in essence have your mother start practicing and studying for the test.

and TRY to talk it over with the manager and explain that since she's never had a license before she could use some extra time in order to get one. if he/she is reasonable they'll understand if not well that's another problem then altogether.

You are taking your mother's word for this and you don't know what is going on. Let your mother fight her own battles. Perhaps if she cannot stand up for herself and needs you to fight her battles she needs to quit.

We are two people that have been to St Kilda Crisis Centre. For Homeless assistance. We were in in crisis accomadation but were told by a salvation army worker " You should NOT have taken the Couples room " " There Are people that really need it more than you do " This had nothing to do with thm as the couples room they refer to it was Not salvation Army. There had been Talk about us in numerous housing agency. Because of this we have paid over 2000 in accomodation of 100 per night motels. When we enter St Kilda Crisis Centre we are told By salvation Army Staff workers to Get out and sleep on the street. We are now to the point of making an official complaint to Minister Tony Abbott as we are Homeless and for what reason getting know help but abuse .

Ever heard of Internet Cafe's and Smartphones with net access? DUH!!!! also employment agencies offer free net access as well as numerous other gov funded places and charity organizations,

Just because someone is homeless does NOT mean they are *** and/or incapable of using the net,

You really need to broaden your horizons a little and experience the bigger picture somewhat.

Tanishka Bix

Why are you complaining about having to pay to stay in a motel? That's what adults do in life, pay for their own shelter.

It sounds like they probably had a good reason to not let you stay in the couples room.

You've managed to find yourself a computer with Internet access to use (for free I'm guessing....I have to pay for mine, just sayin) in order to complain about a charitable organization. Why not spend the time searching for some employment instead?

Salvation Army- Renton Wa.S. tobin

does not allow clients 2 choose what their diets allow.they dont allow u 2 pick what u can n cant eat..even if your allergic 2 the goods. Also during the holidays why is this place the only locationaround King Cnty that never distribtes grocery gift crds frm Fred Meyers..like all other So.King Cnty Salvation Army offices that allow the families to choose what they can and cant use for cooking.Renton gives out a turkey n other cheap goods that may total out 2 maybe $6.00 .Compared to highline district that serves not only a huge variety of toy n joy pickup. They gives out $40.00 gift cards,$40.00 food so those families have he options 2decide what 2 prepare for the season ofchristms. I dont usualy complain bout giving cause Im grateful 2 receive whatevers handed out.Im morelessa bit concerned where the donation n funding for this office is landing and into whos being intrusted with the charities here.Renton is not broke being the location is near Boeing..not far frm Bellve n Issaquah so plenty ofwealthis contributed by many. I believe the funds r being mishandled n possibly pocketed.Iv been going here now going on 3 years n Im only 1 out of many who believe this is whats going on. the ppl also get mistreated n are talk to rude. Id appreciate if higher measures where done 2 investigate from Monday- Friday. Every month a new policy is brought up 2 make it less and less convienant 4 clients thus un benefecial for the residents.Technically this foodbank sucks compared 2 any other Iv ever visited.

Your complaint doesn't make any sense at all, it is just a rambling bunch of garbage. How old are you?

Your complaint sounds like a five year old wrote it. If I were you I would be more worried about learning to spell, capitalize, and punctuate instead of what freebies you get. Are you talking about receiving something called senior commodities or the Christmas box of food, or do you go weekly or monthly to get hand outs. If you qualify for these things, you must be receiving food stamps/EBT/SNAP and that alone would enable you to buy the items that you aren't allergic to.

There isn't anyplace in the USA that you can get a turkey and foods that would total $6.00. Turkeys alone cost more than that. Unless you have a huge family a turkey will make two or three meals. First you start out complaining about the types of free food you get, then you complain because you don't get a free toy.

Grow up! You have no idea how much money your local Salvation Army brings in, in a year. Just because you live in what you say is a fairly wealthy community, doesn't mean the people donate a lot to any charity. Also a lot of people have a favorite charity that they donate to.

I know where I live the red kettle drive is $200,000 under what they need this year. The first word in sentences is supposed to begin with a capital letter, there is no such word spelled "2." There isn't words spelled "u" or "n." If you are going to abbreviate County, there should be a period after the "y." There also isn't works spelled "crd" or "frm." There should be an apostrophe in the word "can't." Also there isn't any such word as "give" in the way you used it. There was a time when I had to go to the Salvation Army for free groceries and never got to pick out what I wanted, they boxed the food up and carried it out to my car. I now qualify for the Senior Commodity program that is operated out of the Salvation Army where I live, but in some other towns a church will handle the program and from talking to people in those towns they get exactly the same items that we get here, and that tells me that those boxes are packed and taped at the food bank in our state.

Being you are only assuming a lot of what you are complaining about, you should take a deep breath and think about what you are saying. You are trying to make trouble for your local Salvation Army and that is called "biting off your nose to spite your face." What would you do if all your complaining caused your Salvation Army to close. Being you think the other towns have better ones, why don't pack up and move, it sounds like you travel around to see what the others do. I don't know how you can get groceries from the ones in other towns unless you can prove you live in the immediate area.

Quit complaining and be thankful for what you have and what you receive, and use your food stamps for the things you can eat.

Lazy employees who work picking up donations

My grandmother passed away and we decided to donate her furniture to the salvation army. When they arrived they were extremely picky as to what the took.

They said the couch had a scratch and couldn't take it and the mattress has a stain as well. They only took the boxes. They're excuse for not taking the furniture was that the elevator in the building was too small and by law the could not use the stairs because they didn't have insurance and can't run the risk. They told me if my husband can take the furniture downstairs and put a tarp over it they would pick it up once I scheduled another pick up.

Needless to say I was very upset. My grandmothers furniture was in good condition or else I wouldn't consider donating it.

Never again will I call the salvation army. I'd rather throw it away.

I had the same experience as you did. On the phone the SA assured me that they would take all furniture that I had but when they came it was a different story.

They took only one piece of furnitjre I had. One dresser they wouldn't take because it was painted! I am in the middle of moving so the house was in a state of disarray from packing.

and one of the volunteers had tbe nerve to tell me that my house was disgusting! Never will I donate to them again!

Last I heard Goodwill won't pick up at all, unless they have changed over the last few years. Actually as far as the original complaint goes, I find it doubtful that it happened the way it was told.

Because I have been finding it harder and harder to get thrift stores to pick donations up, unless there is furniture involved too.

This is because of the cost of picking small items. If you want to give things away there is also Craig's List and Freecycle.

John N Mzy

Not too sure just what you expected. Many of the workers for Salvation Army are not there by choice, but because it is a condition of their "community service" sentence imposed by a judge.

The Salvation Army has now become a big business and is very glad to get people doing community service because they apparently don't have to pay them---the "work" they perform is part of a judicial sentence. Try Goodwill next time.

Call Good Will...the Salvation Army is a scam

Guest

Well for somebody doing complaining, maybe you should check your capitalization and spelling. You do realize that the people that came to pick the stuff up were more than likely unpaid volunteers, don't you?

If you went to the Salvation Army looking for a mattress would you want to buy one with a stain on it? Did you and your husband offer to help get the furniture down stairs? Sure the stuff was in good condition------a mattress with a stain on it. I odn't know about the couch, did it have wood arms or something, or was it a scratch/slight tear in the fabric?

If you would be willing to throw furniture away, next time, you would still have to get it downstairs, so why couldn't you do that this time?

Grow up!!!

Don't agree with you at all. If I had been one of the many who lost everything to Hurricane Sandy, I would be very grateful to get free furniture, tears and all! As for the writer's spelling errors, perhaps it's you who needs to grow up.

People from other area's are seen before clients of the area

Hi i attended the Bourk st food bank today and would like to make a complaint. When i arrived there was a large group of people waiting as well as a large group just leaving at first i thought because of Christmas it was very busy. After waiting about 30 min to get to the desk i was second in line and over heard the 2 men in front of me, they were from the sunshine area and where getting aid as they had already been to sunshine and couldn't go back for 2 months. Now this wouldn't have been too bad only 2 extra people but it wasn't 2 it was 6 people as well as, I'm asuming the large group that had been seen before i arrived. I understand that these people were refugees only in the country 12 months and that they must be experiencing difficulty. But as an indigenous Australian who has worked and payed taxes for 20 years and only stopped work to care for my 14 year old daughter who i receive a cares pension for i was offended that people that are not in this are received extra assistance and where seen before people that live in this area and this is there only option. By the time i was able to get in to the store there was not much left i also witnessed that these 6 men each left with shopping jeeps full as well as back packs full when i asked why they received so much i was told that they had children at home. Also all of these men apparently lived at the same address. My last point that angered me was the Australian guy with the hat and glasses that took them there stood next to me and said too one of the men "now i will take you to another place and we will get some more". My only option as a resident of the city is to go to Bourke st yet i still have to wait over an hour behind people from another area and then when i get my turn there is not much left. i only use the service when required and i am missing out due to food bank shoppers, when i first went i was told i could go every 2 weeks as i lived in the city but i use it on average once every 2 months

UNPROFESSIONAL JERKS

Scheduled a pick up in November -- first available date they had was December. Waited at home all day for the truck to arrive to pick up a sofa. Called back twice and was finally told the drivers cancelled because 'no one was home.' Pick up window between 10:30-am1:30-p.m. and finally learned at 3:00 pm they not only were not going to show up but advised me to leave the item at the curb for the following Monday. Uh huh, I am supposed to carry a 90" wide sofa down three stories of a residential building for them to pick up if they remember to get around to it. I will never donate a dime to this idiotic unprofessional low life organization again.

You were not home so what did you want them to do, sit on the front porch and wait for you to come home because you think you are the center of attention. They had other deliveries to make most likely and are not going to wait round for you to be home.

I believe it, I work for them, they are totally unprofessional as an employer as well..

Throw it in the dumpster. BOOM!

Problem solved. A Mexican will come by and get it.

They get a lot of their matresses from curbs and dumpsters as well, that is why they get bedbugs. :grin
