It took me over 2 months to get them to come for a pick-up. When they came they told me my kitchen set including 6 chairs and 2 leaves was outdoor furniture and therefor they would not take it.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the truck driver gave me the phone number to call and while I was on the phone, the driver drove off without taking any my donations even the items unrelated to the kitchen set. When I told the supervisor what just happened he told me drivers don't have time to wait.
He said he would have his supervisor call me to discuss, which never happened. So, after months of waiting I was left to put back into storage all the items they said they would take.
YOU NEED TO TAKE IT UP WITH "HOMELESS CORPORATE"
Make The Vagrants Staying At The Shelter Move The Heavy Furniture Donations!
As a concerned citizen, I have read many reviews on the pissed off consumer site where people have said the the Salvation Army refused to take furniture from them because it was to big or bulky or heavy. I have a solution to their problem: The Salvation Army outta make a bunch of the vagrants who are staying under their roof go out on the road with them, and make those ably bodied men(and women!) to all of the heavy lifting and carrying of the furniture.
I am sure that these people would be pleased to lend a helping hand to someone in need. Once, in Parkersburg, West Virginia I was hanging out underneath the pavillion, sitting on one of the couches. The preacher who was in charge of the whole place came out of the warehouse and asked me if I would help me move all of the donations under the Pavillion into the warehouse, because they had been having alot of stuff stolen from there and it was the fourth of July and the regular workers had the day off. I gladly helped this nice man move all of the donations and furniture inside.
He asked me if I had been waiting for the free meal, and I told him that they weren't doing it that day because it was the fourth of july. The preacher then said "Well, they had it yesterday and that was a sunday!" and he said since they weren't having a free meal that he was going to give me $5. He then said that it wasn't a handout, that I had worked hard helping him move the donations, so that $5 was money that I had rightfully earned. I was very grateful and I went and ate at McDonalds with it.
This happened in 1998, 20 years ago, so the $5 was worth more in today's money then than it would be now. But I say, Hey!
put those people to work doing all of that heavy lifting and hauling. make them earn their keep!
- Lmao at stories that leonard would tell under pavillion
- Preacher gave me five dollars for helping move furniture
- That they padlocked good food in dumpster
- That they give you the boot out into the cold in morning
- Salvation army staffs mean rude attiitudes

Verified Reviewer | High Point, North CarolinaResold a folded table for a higher price
On 3/10/2018. I purchased a folded table from
Salvation Army store on South Main Street in High Point Nc. I went to store to pick up item
Today 3/17/2018. When asking employee Ivy for the item I
Was told she could not locate it. One of the dock workers came out and asked me for a description of the item
I had purchased and a copy of my receipt. I gave description of item and gave him my receipt showing I had purchased the item. He came back and stated he still could not locate it. I told him
If he let me come look
I could show him
The table if it was back there. He let me in and I pointed the table out to
Him. Dock
Workers had began to retrieve the table to load into my vehicle when another man came out and told them
Not to load and that employee by the name of Ivy wanted to speak with me. Ivy than began to
Tell me that the item
I purchased did not have the correct price on it, because they had just gotten it in this week and she priced it at 499.00. I told her that was not so because I bought it last week
For 99.00. She then stated whatever someone must have switched the tag. I informed her that the Hispanic lady at the register today was the one that sold it to
Me. And the tag on the table stated furniture land folded table for $99.00. I told her a sold tag with my name and phone number was taped to the table on 3/10/2018. She then stated that she knew nothing about it. I then reminded her she was at the register last week
When I purchased the table. She then stated let me call my manager. She called someone on her cell phone and stated I claimed I paid 99.00 for a table last week
That she had sold to
Someone else for 499.00. He stated give me my money back. I don't want my money back . I want the table that I purchased last week. One cannot sell someone an item for one price and then turn around and same sell the same item to another customer for a higher price. If you sold my item that i
Paid for without my consent for a higher price. Then I am entitled to what you sold that item for . I also
Want back the money I paid for the rental
Truck to
come pick up the table I purchased.

Sounds like some terrible goings on needs to be investigated
They should be shamed for treating poor folks like trash, after all they claim to represent and care about the less fortunate. I've read some harsh negative reviews about the S.
A. and now I'm begging to see the problem.
Thankyou for this information. I work for the government and will surely investigate these alleged activities.
The Salvation Army Shelter in Parkersburg, West Virginia is the rare exceotion to that rule. They run a really nice Homeless Shelter there, and if you are homeless, it would be worth your while to travel there to have a decent place to stay.
